Boxing
Boxing with Tradition
The boxing department, founded by Fritz Bretschneider (see below), is one of the oldest in the entire club.
For the new year, we were able to gain a licensed trainer in Andreas Schöne, who still saw club legend Bretschneider active and wants to breathe new life into the department, including by allowing the team to take part in competitions again. With the new head of department Florian Schlicker and the highly motivated team of trainers, the USG boxing department is in the process of expanding its position significantly and becoming more active in the youth sector.
Interested athletes of all ages are cordially invited to take part in a trial training session.
Fritz Bretschneider began his active career in 1922 and won an impressive 78 of his 100 fights. He made a name for himself early on with the boxing department of the USG, which he founded, for example when he persuaded Soviet occupation officers to give him training time for the department in the cafeteria of the university building on the Street of Nations in the post-war period. In the autumn of 1997, he was still training 9 to 14 year olds twice a week, and at the time, at 89, he was the oldest active boxing trainer in Germany. Fritz Bretschneider died on June 1, 1998 at the age of 90.
